Risa Kodani grew up in the countryside in Okayama prefecture in Japan. She started playing piano at age of 4, and since then playing piano and singing was big part of her youth. After majoring in classical vocal at Osaka College of Music and graduating in 2005, She started her music career as a Jazz vocalist after passing the jazz vocal auditions in Osaka. She performed regularly at Jazz clubs in Japan.

After moving to Melbourne in 2012, she continues to sing jazz in both countries. She is now a mother of one. She finished her Certificate 3 in early childhood education in 2021 and is working as an educator in a local early childhood education centre. She also uses her musical skills and background to give musical performances at Playgroups in Melbourne and kindergartens in Japan.
